Registration & Camping
The Alabama Scenic River Trail will be hosting our Earth Month Delta Paddle using Historic Blakely Sate Park as a base camp. On site Registration will start Thursday evening 04/08/10. Cost is $50.00 per person. The event will run from Friday 04/09/10 thru Sunday 04/11/10. We are taking registration by mailed check , or at the gate (but please, if you're paying when you show up, let us know you're coming. This is VERY important to us and to you). Our group campsite will be the Horse camping area near the boat ramp. It is the only area large enough for all of us. The boats will be kept in a grassy area near the boat ramp .
The section of the park where we will encamp does not have electricity and water, but we will have a Port-O-Let nearby, and a short distance away are the Park's bathrooms. The Park is allowing us the use of their "Water Buffalo " (a military style water trailer) full of fresh water.
Showers will be the portable type and we will have a bathroom in the Trail's newly acquired travel trailer. There should be enough showers and facilities to meet everyone's basic needs.
Blakely State Park rules are that:
-
The horse Parking /camping area will be for tents only
-
Pop-up campers will need to camp in the Harper tent campground
-
RVs will need to camp in the Appalachee Campground
-
This will be at the participants own expense (costs are reasonable)
Electricity will be provided by a small generator we will run before quiet hour at night or as needed. Participants should bring their lanterns and flashlights .
Advanced Reservations can be made by sending a check for $50.00 per person to

The Delta Explorer (option) and the Paddle Trips
If we have enough passengers preregister for it, on Friday April 9th, we will go out on the Delta Explorer. The Delta Explorer is a very large pontoon style tour boat, that has 2 hour excursions into the Delta. What a great entree into earth month! Cost of the excursion is $22.00 for adults and $12.00 for kids 6-12 years old .
Reservations for the Explorer must be made in advance. if we do not get the minimum amount of people, anyone who paid for a ticket will have their money refunded.
Please include the ticket prices in your check for advanced reservations and a note explaining, what ages you are paying for .
Friday will be a day for arrival, camp set up and for exploring all the rich history of Blakely Park (the last battle of the civil war was fought here when the town, now a ghost town, was larger than Mobile), as well anyone who wants to unofficially take a paddle trip down the Blakely River.
Saturday Morning we will provide coffee and hot water for instant grits, oatmeal, etc in preparation for our first paddle trip into the Delta. As soon as possible that morning, we leave from the park and paddle towards Highway 98.
At the end of the day we will be picked up by buses at our takeout and returned to the park. The boats will be loaded on a flatbed trailer and brought back to the park .
If you prefer not to have your boat stacked on the trailer, then you may return in you personal vehicle and pick up your boat. Somebody will remain with the boats until the last one is back at camp.
