VICTORY! Locks open to recreational boaters under new plan
Ten-Four: Ten hours a day, four days a week. That's the new schedule announced by the US Army Corps of Engineers that allows the public to use the locks on the Alabama and Chattahoochee Rivers. This is a reversal of a previous decision to close the locks to recreational traffic.

There are a few other limitations having to do with holidays and the availability of lock operators during their annual sick leave terms, but all in all this is a win for the river-loving people of our state.

One of the reason cited for the reversal of the decision to close the locks was public pressure. That's YOU. Your 1300 signatures and comments, gathered through this website, newsletter and social media networking, helped motivate the political pressure that stopped a tragedy from occurring.
