July Paddles – Sunshine, Rapids, and River Magic

From smooth creek paddles to thrilling whitewater fun, July brought more unforgettable moments on Alabama’s waterways. Whether exploring the peaceful bends of Wedowee Creek, riding the chutes of the Tallapoosa, or soaking up good vibes at Montgomery Whitewater, this month reminded us just how special summer on the river can be. Here’s a look back at three standout events from the month.

July 3 – Tallapoosa Paddle from Horseshoe Bend to Jaybird Landing

What a beautiful day on the Tallapoosa! On July 3, Trail Angel Katie led 12 paddlers on a sun-drenched adventure from Horseshoe Bend Park to Jaybird Landing. The route offered a mix of fun chutes and gentle rapids, perfect for both new and seasoned paddlers. Big thanks to Katie for her leadership and to our Board Member for coming along for the ride. We’re thrilled to keep growing our Trail Angels program and welcoming even more people to these incredible waterways.

July 16 – Camps Getaway on Wedowee Creek

On July 16, ASRT was warmly welcomed by Camps Getaway for a peaceful paddle on beautiful Lake Wedowee. Led by owner Eric, a group of 10 paddlers explored the waterway, enjoyed a riverside lunch, and even took a refreshing swim. A huge thank you to Eric and Jennifer for putting the WE in Wedowee and to everyone who joined us with flexibility and good vibes.

July 25 – Sweet Caroline Friday at Montgomery Whitewater

We had an absolute blast at Sweet Caroline Friday on July 25! Eleven paddlers showed up ready to take on the rapids with a mix of ducky kayaking and whitewater rafting fun. Huge thanks to Montgomery Whitewater for hosting and making the day so special. If you missed this one, don’t worry—summer isn’t over yet! Join us for the next Sweet Caroline Friday on August 8. Stay tuned for the sign-up post!
