Rivers of Alabama Day Recap: Partnership in Action
On Tuesday, April 8, the Alabama Scenic River Trail (ASRT) joined forces with waterway partners in Montgomery to observe Rivers of Alabama Day, a statewide event dedicated to protecting and celebrating Alabama’s 132,000 miles of rivers and streams.
Advocacy at the State House
Rivers of Alabama Day, established by the Alabama Legislature in 2007 and newly recognized by the City of Montgomery, is observed each year on the second Tuesday in April. This year, ASRT collaborated with the Alabama Rivers Alliance, Friends of the Alabama River, and the Alabama River Foundation during the Alabama Rivers Alliance’s annual Lobby Day at the State House. The ASRT staff visited the offices of state leaders like Representative Corley Ellis and Senator Josh Carnley to discuss the importance of utilizing Alabama’s waterways.
Evening Celebration at Red Bluff Bar
Following the day’s advocacy efforts, ASRT hosted the Rivers of Alabama Day Celebration at Red Bluff Bar, situated along the banks of the Alabama River. The event brought together community members, policy advocates, and river enthusiasts to unwind, connect, and reflect on the shared mission to defend Alabama’s waterways.
