May Paddles- Kicking the Summer off with Fun!
May was packed with incredible days on the water, each one unique, welcoming, and full of Alabama river magic. From the sandbars of the Styx River to the sweeping views of Lake Guntersville, here’s a look back at where we paddled, who joined us, and what made each day special.
May 21 – A Laid-Back Paddle on the Styx River
Ten paddlers met under an overcast sky at Styx River Canoe and Tube Rental in Robertsdale, AL, and launched onto the flowing Styx River. With plenty of sandbars for mid-paddle snack breaks, the group meandered through calm waters and shared good company. One first-time paddler crushed it, joining the ranks of seasoned river lovers alongside our Executive Director Andrew Szymanski and Board Member Ryan Davis. Big thanks to Styx Canoe and Tube Rental for helping us get on the water safely!
May 26 – Memorial Day Magic on the Cahaba
A sunny Memorial Day brought six paddlers out to the 13-mile stretch from Heiberger to Sprott on the Cahaba River. Led by our experienced Trail Angel Mary Jane, the group enjoyed a fast-moving, full river, and an extra dose of wildlife. Eagles, herons, and even an otter joined the party! It was a slippery, splash-filled day filled with laughter and gratitude for the natural beauty of the Cahaba and the leadership of our Trail Angels.
May 31 – Creek to Cove on Lake Guntersville
We wrapped up the month with a bang! Over 70 paddlers joined us at the Langston Boat Ramp for the 2025 Creek to Cove Paddle, hosted in collaboration with our friends at Tennessee RiverLine. After a quick safety briefing, everyone launched into Lake Guntersville for a scenic 4+ mile paddle to Morgan’s Cove. Along the way, we were welcomed by soaring eagles, curious fish, and osprey overhead. On land, we were honored by the presence of the Mayor of Langston, delicious food from the Town of Langston, and vital support from Jackson County Rescue Squad. Huge thanks to Explore Lake Guntersville, Morgan County Tourism, and Jackson County, AL for helping bring this day to life!
