ALABAMA — Alabama Scenic River Trail revealed the first-ever Waterway Enhancement Program recipients. This new initiative, driven by ASRT’s dedication to improving freshwater recreation opportunities and safety throughout Alabama, supports local organizations’ efforts to enhance waterway access across the state.

Autauga Creek Improvement Committee (ACIC) is proud to be chosen as one of the recipients of the Alabama Scenic River Trail (ASRT) Waterway Enhancement Program grant for 2024. This program, Alabama Waterway Enhancement Program, supports local organizations in their efforts to enhance freshwater recreation opportunities across Alabama.

1. John Knippers – the Great Alabama 650 Conqueror With an astounding 36.36% of the votes, totaling 1,652 supporters, John Knippers from Langley, OK, USA made history by becoming the first man to complete the Alabama 650 on a SUP.

And now, a collaboration involving the city, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Alabama Scenic River Trail, the local nonprofit Restoration154 and individual stakeholders promises a new chapter for Pea River.

Trussville’s waterways were shown some love today, November 30 thanks to a new project led by the Friends of Pinchgut Creek.
In a few months, inquiring minds are going to have a new way to learn about the trees in those woods. Friends of Pinchgut Creek has partnered with Alabama Scenic River Trail, The Cahaba River Society and others to create a beautiful educational experience, The Cahaba River Tree Trail.

After an exhilarating and challenging nonstop 650-mile paddle race across the waterways of Alabama, the Great Alabama 650 reached its conclusion.

On Saturday, Sept. 30, 20 people will paddle small watercraft away from the shore of Weiss Lake northeast of Gadsden, aiming to cover the length of the state in a virtually nonstop feat of extreme endurance racing.
