Alabama Scenic River Trail Celebrates Successful Summer Paddle on Terrapin Creek

Piedmont, AL – August 14, 2024 – The Alabama Scenic River Trail (ASRT) hosted the third installment of its 2024 Summer Paddling Series on Terrapin Creek utilizing the No Worries Kayak Rental Outfitter for the event. The occasion was highlighted by the attendance of Alabama State Representative Ginny Shaver, who joined participants from her district at the paddle’s kickoff.

ASRT Executive Director Andrew Szymanski opened the event by expressing ASRT’s appreciation for the ongoing support that allows the delivery impactful programs like the Summer Paddling Series. “We are immensely grateful for the backing we receive from the state, which enables us to unite communities and celebrate Alabama’s extraordinary water recreation opportunities,” Szymanski stated.

Representative Shaver also addressed attendees, underscoring the importance of Alabama’s waterways and the vital role of ASRT’s programming in promoting the state’s natural assets. Shaver remarked that the state is happy to be a supporting partner of the Alabama Scenic River Trail and its many programs. Shaver noted ASRT as the official paddling resource for the state and that ASRT’s Mile Marker program is helping make Alabama’s waterways the safest in the nation. By fostering water recreation and highlighting the outdoors in our area, we are strengthening local communities and boosting tourism, enhancing the state’s reputation as a premier destination.

Following the opening remarks, the nineteen paddlers embarked on a 5-mile paddle on Terrapin Creek. The Summer Paddling Series, designed to connect paddling enthusiasts from across Alabama, provides a unique opportunity to foster community engagement, support local businesses, and explore the state’s diverse waterways.

This series has been a successful part of ASRT’s 2024 summer programming, with paddles growing in popularity as the summer has progressed. With the final paddle of the season slated for September 11th on the Flint River in Madison County with TGL Adventures, ASRT encourages paddling enthusiasts to enjoy the remaining opportunities to engage with Alabama’s waterways.
